Welcome to my AS Media Studies blog. I have created a college magazine as a preliminary task, and created a music magazine for my main task.
My research and planning began September 2011

I then did my evaluation in March 2012

The good :) The fonts are nice and in keeping with the theme of the magazine especailly the title on the front cover, the black, blue and white are good together in most places (see below) the images are all good however if an improvemt was made on them it would have to be they have nothing with them that indicates they are something to do with music, like a guitar (cause say if they was first time readers wanting to know about the bands not someone who was into them they may need some more info)
ReplyDeleteThe Bad :( (but not very bad just may need looking at...The white on the front doesn't seem to go with the magazine, it makes it look like it is a football magazine, try black or try making the background blue with white writing? May help but it may look the same :/ . Some of the image backgrounds don't seem to fit such as the dude with the door, maybe look at it and see if it can be cropped?

ReplyDeleteI like how you have used blue white and black, throughout your magazine, and the layout is really good and how you have kept things together. I also like how on the content page its really easy to look at what page you want to go, and the Facebook symbol at the side of the page.
ReplyDeleteI like the colour scheme consistency throughout your magazine. That definitely keeps it looking professional.
ReplyDeleteFront page: I like the masthead font as it fits with your genre, although I think on the front page ( for the stories etc) the fonts could work a little better. For example: 'Also inside' could be bigger or have something that makes it stand out more compared to everything else underneath. I like your eye contact with your main image. It's very strong. I'd like to see it maybe taking up the whole page, then your stories could fill the gaps? and then Vicky's picture could overlap and your barcode can also be made smaller? I like the way you have used the conventions from magazines and have the footer at the bottom! By using ideas from other magazine's it makes your magazine look more realistic. After saying this, maybe select 4 of the bands and only put these on there, because I don't think all of them are needed as they take up too much room.
Contents: I'm loving the font style of the 'Contents.' really fits in with your genre. I'd like to maybe see it the same shade of blue as the double page spread and front cover? Maybe experiment? I love your change of colour between blue and white for your text!! Makes it emphasize the titles and I like that :') Again experiment with font sizes, for example, your editors note could be smaller than your stories to give the stories a bigger impact?
Double page spread: I like your images on your double page spread and the use of colours. I don't feel that you need the page number on the left hand side necessarily since I think it effects the image? I think you need to make the story name a little more bold. I'm not too sure how. Maybe try adding a white drop shadow on it or experimenting with the colour. I'm not too sure.
Overall I'm impressed with how much you've completed in such a short period of time. Sorry for the detailed message :P Hope its helped though :)
Danny I like you work I thinks the colour scheme and layout and really good. the only bad thing I would say and this needs doing ASAP is the images apart from the main image on the front cover are stretched and its making the images looks weird, don't know if this is on purpose but thought I would say something well done mate :)
